TEXT: G. Strang, Introduction to Linear Algebra, 4th Ed., ISBN 0980232716.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Many systems studied in science and engineering involve a linear relationship among several variables. Matrices offer the mathematical language to describe and analyze such systems.

PREREQUISITES: Calculus II (MAT152 or permission of instructor).

TOPICS:

  1. Matrices and Systems of Equations (Ch. 1, 2)
  2. Vector Spaces (Ch. 3)
  3. Orthogonality (Ch. 4)
  4. Determinants (Ch. 5)
  5. Eigenvalues and Eigenvectors (Ch. 6)
  6. Linear Transformations (Ch. 7)
  7. Applications (Ch. 8)
  8. Numerical Linear Algebra (Ch. 9)
  9. Complex Vectors and Matrices (Ch. 10)
